The Superpower of Faith

Hey guys! So November’s officially hit! Anybody else already planning for two months worth of worrying about Christmas presents? Already all over the Internet you’ll find people talking about Christmas. It’s like Thanksgiving doesn’t exist anymore.

But we’re not here to talk about Thanksgiving or Christmas, not yet anyway. Today, we’re here to discuss the superpower of faith! This is the third installment of the superpowers of the spirit, and this superpower in particular is a little bit difficult to explain, so please bear with me.

According to The New Oxford American Dictionary, faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. The second definition it gives is a strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. Now that we have those two definitions in mind, throw them away. While both definitions may define what faith is to the world, this is not how we should view faith as believers in Christ. In my opinion it waters the power behind.
But to begin, we’re going to talk about three levels of faith, in which all religions come into play, and how the gift of faith fits in with their list. The first level of faith is the salvation faith. Everyone, everywhere in the world will make that one decision to either follow Christ, or to believe in the Big Bang, or to believe in multiple gods, or whatever. While I firmly believe that choosing Christ is the only path to salvation, people are still under the mindset that their belief is true. Nobody commits themselves to a religion without some belief that they’re making the right decision right? So when you have enough faith to believe it, you are at the first level of faith.

For the second level, I quote the words of John Lennox, “Faith is not a leap in the dark, it’s the exact opposite. It’s a commitment based on evidence.” Meaning, people can have faith and have their logical understanding for their faith. For example, atheists can use science to back up their faith just like Christians can. This second level of faith is more of a knowledgable faith rather than a blind one. If you have enough faith to gain up knowledge to back up that faith rather than staying blind, you’ve made it to level two.

Now the third level is where the gift of faith finally comes into play. It may sound silly, but this faith is actually a mix between knowledge and blind faith, and yet it’s where we as Christians separate ourselves from other religions in terms of faith. While having knowledge about why you believe in what you believe is a good thing, sometimes there are things that we cannot comprehend with logic at the time.

For example, not too long ago, my uncle who had struggled through alcohol abuse, was murdered in a car wreck by a crazy ex girlfriend that he was leaving. His life was a roller coaster between belief and unbelief. He would be on fire for God at one point, and then the next he would be back to his old drunken ways. He had four kids, three with one woman and one with another, and he wasn’t there for his kids. Still, despite the fact that he failed at being there for his kids, he made a big impact for God and saved many lives for the kingdom. But after we learned that he had been hit but his crazy ex, my mom and grandparents were just heartbroken. This was at a time when we were under the assumption that he was drinking and doing drugs, and had lost his salvation. After an hour or so, a feeling came over me like a strong sense of peace, and I told my mom, “I think that him leaving his ex, was a sign of saying ‘yes’ to God.” She was silent at first, but she agreed with me. Now at this time we had no physical evidence to back this up, but rather it was a supernatural feeling. Later on we find little bits of evidence that backed this up. We had learned that he had a cross ring on during the crash, he had a bible in his jeep, and somebody at his work just so happened to be ministering to him. If that’s not enough, not long after that, my grandmother had a vision of him in playing with two children. When she told the mother of his three kids, we learned that my uncle had two miscarriages.

Now while the story is extraordinary and too good to be true, the fact still remains that at the very beginning of this story, all I had to go on to believe that my uncle got to heaven, was just a feeling. A lot of people dismiss these little feelings, but this is actually a gift of the Holy Spirit. Look back at Hebrews 11, the faith chapter. It was by faith that: Abel brought a better offering than Cain, Noah built a large ark to save his family, Abraham obeyed God when God told him to leave his original home, Sarah was able to have a child, Moses refused to be called Pharaoh’s daughter's son, Israel passed through the Red Sea, Israel took down Jericho, and the stories keep going. That is where we divide ourselves with others in terms of faith. That is the fine line between those who have faith in God and those who do not. If you want more evidence on faith, go read Hebrews 11, and or check out the post I did on it. The gift of faith is more profound and more powerful than just your average faith. Faith in God, and being gifted with it by the Holy Spirit enables us with the ability to do amazing things for the kingdom.

If you liked this post please give me a thumbs up or if you have a question or a comment, email me at fire.time.rsmith@gmail.com. Next time we’ll talk about the fourth superpower called healing. So until next time, God bless and keep your fire for God, blazing!

" Everyone, everywhere in the world has made that one decision to either follow Christ, or to believe in the Big Bang, or to believe in multiple gods, or whatever."

First off, in a world of 7.5 billion people, there's got to be a few people out there who haven't even heard of any of the above.  Second, I'm surprised and dissapointed at you.  Do you really think that belief in God and belief in the big bang are mutually exclusive? being a creationist is one thing, but a person as reasonable, logical, and wise as yourself should know better than to think the big bang and god to be mutually exclusive. read this: sin-and-love.deviantart.com/ar…

"He would be on fire for God at one point, and then the next he would be back to his old drunken ways."  I'd like to point out that one could  be on fire for God and an alcoholic at the same time.  Two ways: the first way is with a good deal of guilt and desire to change. To give you an idea of how much I can assure you this is true, I weigh 350lbs and cannot see my feet.  I am a glutton, but I am on fire for God and have been trying to change for years.  The second way is that they simply didn't think God had a problem with it. (Of course, this would call in to question the validity of their biblical interpretation method, but still.)
